The packaging industry has been under the microscope for several years and the demands from society have been for the plastics industry to do more to help protect and preserve our planet.
Our mission is to exceed customers’ expectations as your packaging partner by delivering innovation and sustainability. SKYGREEN is our commitment to our mission to deliver sustainable solutions to our customers to meet the needs of their customers.
As a fully integrated manufacturer of flexible packaging in the UK, we see it as our duty to make our company as sustainable as possible.
We have focussed heavily over the past couple of years and have brought to market several innovations, that prioritise our key objectives
Across the entire business we active look at ways in which we can reduce our impact on the environment around us and the people we come into contact with. We have engaged with our customers and team in various down gauge projects to remove polymers from the market. Reduce inks, solvents & waste throughout the business, plus reduce our CO2 and reduce our energy consumption
We have consistently made our products stronger and thinner, whilst driving materials performance to increase line speeds
A perfect example is the factory wide lighting upgrade which successfully achieved both our objectives by creating a working environment with a minimum of twice the previous light levels whilst saving in excess of 130,000kWh per annum of electricity in the process.
We reuse polymers, inks & solvents to name a few in our process, creating a circular economy around the packaging, extending its life cycle and usability.
We are proud to say that we have successfully introduce recycled content within many of our products, which will mitigate the plastic tax for many of our customers, reclaiming over 45,000kgs of plastic packaging a month which would otherwise have been sent to landfill.
Off cuts of cardboard cores would normally have been scrapped, now we join up small lengths of cores and then cut the cores to specified lengths. These are for introduction into the manufacturing processes. The effect of this new machine is the volume of cardboard waste sent for local recycling has been significantly reduced.
A Renzman distillation machine was installed into a newly constructed building. The machine is connected to our printing presses. This receives dirty solvent from the presses and issues recycled solvents
We aim to produce packaging that can be collected, sorted and recycled. Helping to produce higher quality recycled materials. Products that our ‘Design for Recycling’ guidelines, such as CEFLEX D4ACE Guidelines.
Through flexible innovation, we have brought to market fully recyclable packaging solutions: SKYMONO for both PE and PP material structures.
SKYMONO is our fully recyclable solutions for either PE, PP or PET materials for both food and non food applications.
The use of renewable raw materials like paper and new plastics made from renewable feedstock can help us to achieve independence from fossil resources. In doing so, we can also avoid the release of additional carbon into the atmosphere, which is stored in earth’s fossil resources over thousands of years.
As we integrate renewable materials into our solutions, we ensure that all materials are sourced responsibly. We use FSC® certified paper and ISCC Plus certified renewable feedstock, and several of our sites are already FSC® COC and ISCC Plus certified.
Recycling is effective. Recently the British Plastic Federation concluded in response to the Big Plastic Count that between 30 and 80 percent of the carbon emissions produced during the manufacture and processing of virgin plastic are avoided through recycling.
