Extrusion
The primary purpose of a substrate whether it is paper, polyethylene or polypropylene, is to provide attractive and practical packaging solutions suitable to run on various types of wrapping machines. At Skymark, we possess an intimate knowledge of the specification and the performance characteristics of most wrapping machines on the market and the substrates that best suits them. We have achieved this by collaborating with manufacturers of automatic wrapping machinery such as Sitma, Wrapmatic, Cassoli, Hayssen and Joisten & Kettenbaum. We are regularly involved in the design of sealing and forming sections of new plant and equipments.

Ilkeston is the blown film centre within the Skymark Group of companies with both BRC and IS09001:2000 accreditation. Our co-ex machinery is capable of producing films to a width of 2.6 metres. Over the years we have developed and maintained close relationships with our polymer suppliers. These joint development programs have resulted in the manufacture of various innovative and specialist polymers and products. We specialize in offering our customers novel and new approaches to meet their film requirements. This includes the latest metallocene based films which provide bespoke polyethylene-packaging material, at a lower gauge and at a higher performance to satisfy specialist 'form-and-fill' applications.

Premium performance films for the Hygiene, Medical and Specialty markets are manufactured at our Scunthorpe facility in five-layer co-extruded flat or Nip cast embossed PE, PP/PE and PP, in widths of up to 2.4 meters. Specialty low-gel and medical films are manufactured in a unique purpose built enclosed line, specifically designed for these applications. We use computerized control systems to ensure that the dynamic properties within each film specification are maintained to exacting standards. Reel geometry, gauge control, tensile strength, elongation, tear propagation, initiation, rigidity, gloss, slip and sealability are all measured and maintained to meet the requirements of individual customer's wrapping machines.

Substantial investment in both cooling ring and die technology coupled with fully computerized IBC high output co-extruders, have further enhanced the quality of our films. As with any ISO9001:2000 accredited scheme, each stage in the manufacture of our product is monitored, controlled, assessed and recorded to ensure that the same high quality of film is consistently produced time after time.

Skymark manufactures LD and Cast-polypropylene films as well as print on paper, foil and other substrates to suit a variety of applications. These are sourced from reliable European manufacturers, all of whom operate to exacting standards of quality control.
